Educator Evaluation Information 09-10

As part of the federal requirements for states’ receiving funding under Phase 2 of the State Fiscal Stabilization Funds Program, all school districts in New Jersey are providing information to the public on the procedures they use to evaluate teachers and principals. The information presented below will help you understand the Burch Charter School of Excellence policies and procedures for evaluating teachers and educational specialists such as librarians and counselors.

Description of Teacher Evaluation System

Policy 4116

The Board of Trustees at the Burch Charter School of Excellence believes that the school must have a coherent and effective system for teacher evaluations tied to the Core Curriculum Content Standards. The purpose of this evaluation shall be to promote professional excellence and improve the skills of teaching staff members, improve pupil learning and growth; and provide a basis for the review of staff performance.

Tenured teaching staff members shall be observed and evaluated at least once per year by properly certified administrators. Nontenured teaching staff members shall be observed at least three times each year by properly certified district staff.

Evaluations shall be completed before April 30 of each year. The evaluation process shall

Provide continuous, constructive, cooperative interaction and communication between the teaching staff member and his/her evaluator, thus ensuring a valid basis for performance review.

The teacher evaluation system is also used to inform recommendations for continued employment at Burch Charter School of Excellence. All procedures for the evaluation of teaching staff members shall be in compliance with law and regulation.
